5 novembre 2014

Introduction

Hi everybody!

Here are Romée and Astrid. So, we are two 21 yo girls who love travelling all around the world. We met in highschool and every summer since the begining of our friendship we make a trip together to a "new country". Last summer we did a long road trip threw all the USA for almost 3 weeks. We've seen so many beautiful places and we've discovered a new culture which is quite different than our, the french one. So when we came back, we decided to share some of our souvenirs with you guys and we hope that they will help you one day if you ever want to go the the Unites States! We chose four different and famous places : Los Angeles and The Grand Canyon on the West Coast, New York and Philadelphia on the East Coast.

The Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon was the most impressive place we’ve ever seen. It’s a very spectacular Canyon (it's figuring in the patrimonial of the UNESCO). There we have seen so many beautiful sunsets. Besides the landscapes were amazing, as the breath-taking views. We felt like explorers into the wild! When you are there you just have a feeling of freedom! Indeed the Grand Canyon is keeping such a peaceful atmosphere. At the entrance, we saw a very interesting documentary about the discovery of the Canyon, a long time ago. Here's an advice : if you go there you should take the helicopter to overfly the Canyon, the breath-taking views that are offered will transport you to another country above the clouds only made of dreams... Finally don’t forget to bring caps and sun lotion because it’s very hot inside! And yeah you shouldn’t go into the Canyon with young children because it can be risky, we saw three snakes! And of course a lot of squirrels, but those one are not dangerous! It was so magical that we will always remember it!

Los Angeles

When we arrived to Los Angeles we were shocked because everything was bigger or higher than in France: the food, the drink, the cars,... Besides there were palmtrees everywhere, it was like a dream! First, we walked in Hollywood boulevard and took some pictures of the famous stars. We had fun searching the names of our favorite actors! Then we drove on Rodeo Drive where we saw lots of bikers on their huge Harley Davidson. After, we visited the famous Madame Tussaud's museum and we went to Hollywood to take the famous picture of the letters on the hill. Finally we have visited the Universal Studio of Hollywood : it was fabulous! There we have done lots of attractions! If you have free time you should really go there! However Beverly Hills was the place we loved the most because of its many shops and its beautiful landscapes! In conclusion, we loved Los Angeles and we are looking forward to go there again!

New-York City

-The Statue of Liberty-

So, the first thing we have visited in New-York was the famous statue of Liberty, also called Liberty Enlightening the World. We aren’t going to do a total description of it because you can just go on the internet but we’re going to tell you about the feelings we got when we went there ! First of all, the word huge is enough to tell about it’s size ! Indeed, it’s a colossal statue. Its meaning is really important, because it has been built to celebrate the centennial of the american declaration of independence and has became a symbol of freedom for the millions of european immigrants. We can understand why this statue means so much to the american. We can see a crown, a tablet where the independence’s date is written, and a torch.

So we took a big tourist boat that took us to Ellis Island and we had the chance to go around the island and we saw all the different parts of the statue. We discorvered a poem engraved on the pedestal of the statue by Emma Lazarus. Here's one picture we took to show you how close to the statue we've been. You should really go there if you have one day the chance to go to new york city because it’s more than beautiful !

Philadelphia

As it was way too far from NYC, we went to Philadelphia by train. We were sitted in front of two american girls and when they heard us talking french they seemed so surprised so we began to talk together. They were so nice, they gave us lots of good advices. Here’s a short part of our conversation !

Lily : So where are you from guys ?

Astrid : We live in Paris but we’ve been here for 2 weeks already !   .

Olivia : Ohh and what are you going to do in Philly today ?

Romée : We don’t really know yet ! We haven’t planed anything for the moment…We will probably visit museum, chill along the river that crosses the city ,…How is it called ?

Olivia : Humm…Delaware River I think !

Astrid : Yeah we may do that, or do you have any ideas ?

Lily : Well, I don’t really know…Oh yeah, you HAVE TO do the « ride the duck » tour ! It’s funny !

Olivia : Don’t tell them more ! Let them discover the principle on their own ! Prepare yourself : you’re gonna be shocked ! It’s the funniest and also the weirdest thing ever !

Astrid : Haha so will do that, how much time does it take ?

Olivia : I would say like 20-30 minutes, not more !

Romée : Oh perfect ! So we’ll have time left for shopping !

Lily : Oh shopping ! You’re talking to the right people ! So, the best avenue, trust me, is Pine Street !

Olivia : I agree ! There you can find every fashion shop you want ! It’s maybe a « bit » crowded but it’s so cool ! You can’t leave Philly without going there !

Astrid : Well thank you for all those good advices which, I’m sure, are gonna help us a lot ! It was nice meeting you !

Then we arrived at the train station and walked in unknown streets to discover the « inside » of the city. It was beautiful. It was early in the morning and the sun was lighting up the buildings. Suddendly, we heard strange noises and we saw like a yellow boat on wheels whith the tag « Ride the Duck » written on it. So we followed the girls advices and we « jumped » in the boat.  Then the guide explained us the principle of the tour. We were in a boat that has been changed in a car with wheels and that was doing a tour of the city and then an other tour but by the river, as a boat this time ! I know, such a really weird thing but as they said, also very funny ! Along the tour, the guide was telling us little stories about the monuments we were seeing.  And at the end, we got a little present, a yellox duckbill whistle and we still have it tho ! Then we went shopping on Pine Street and came home as we were really tired. It was one of our favourite days in the usa !
